The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) is a volunteer run, not for profit, organisation that was established in 1945 and is comprised of individual members who are passionate about children's and young adult literature.

  • The CBCA Book of the Year Awards, supported by the Awards Foundation, with significant prize money awarded to the winner and honour book/s in each category
  • CBCA Children’s Book Week- the longest running children’s festival in Australia (63 years)
  • Production of a national merchandise line that is sold around Australia in the lead up to Children’s Book Week
  • Encouraging reading and involving children and school communities through the Junior Judges' Project
  • Engaging and communicating with key Australian children’s literature communities through our website, national and branch based activities and the review journal Reading Time
  • The CBCA National Conference- held biennially, highlighting national and international authors and speakers on reading and literacy

  • Forming partnerships as necessary with other key stakeholders in order to raise the profile of Australian children’s literature
  • Maintaining an historical perspective and providing a wealth of research material for Australian children’s literature through the Lu Rees Archives
  • The Children's Book Council of Australia  National Archives, dating back to 1945, are held at the National Library of Australia.
